Accelerated Partial Breast Irradiation (APBI)
Accelerated Partial Breast Irradiation (APBI) Accelerated Partial Breast Irradiation or "APBI" is a method of partial breast irradiation that works by delivering radiation from inside the breast directly to the tissue where cancer is most likely to recur. Treatment requires surgical placement of a catheter into the lumpectomy site. Generally, treatment can be completed in 5 days given in a twice daily fashion. There are several manufactures that provide these catheters including Mammosite and Contura. North Atlanta radiation Oncology was one of the first groups to offer this treatment in the Atlanta area.
