Radiation Oncologists
Radiation oncologists are the doctors who will oversee your radiation therapy treatments. These physicians work with the other members of the radiation therapy team to develop and prescribe your treatment plan and make sure that each treatment is accurately given. Your radiation oncologist will also monitor your progress and adjust the treatment as necessary to make sure you get the best care throughout the course of treatment. Radiation oncologists help identify and treat any side effects that may occur due to radiation therapy. They work closely with other physicians, including medical oncologists and surgeons, and all members of the radiation oncology team. All of the Radiation Oncologists of North Atlanta Radiation Oncology are Board Certified in the practice of Radiation Oncology.
Medical Radiation Physicists
Medical physicists work closely with the Radiation Oncologists to deliver quality radiation treatment. They oversee the work of the dosimetrist and help ensure that complex treatments are properly tailored for each patient. The medical physicists are responsible for developing and directing quality control programs for equipment and procedures. Their responsibilities also include making sure the equipment works properly by taking precise measurements of the radiation beam and performing other safety tests on a regular basis. Our medical physicists are board certified in Medical Physics by the American Board of Radiology.
Dosimetrists
Dosimetrists work with the radiation oncologist and medical physicist to calculate the dose of radiation to make sure the tumor gets enough radiation. Using computers, they develop a treatment plan that can best destroy the tumor while sparing the normal tissues.
Radiation Therapists
Northside Hospital and the Northside / Alpharetta office employ certified radiation therapists. Radiation therapists administer the daily radiation treatment under the radiation oncologist’s prescription and supervision. They maintain daily records and regularly check the treatment machines to make sure they are working properly. They are also monitor and report any side effects of treatment to the Radiation Oncologists and the Nursing Staff.
Radiation Oncology Nurses
The Radiation Oncology Nurse is a valuable resource to you and your family. They will explain the possible side effects you may experience and will describe how you can manage them. They will assess how you are doing throughout treatment and will help you cope with the changes you are experiencing. Our nursing staff is available throughout your treatment course as well as the follow-up period to help you cope with any issues that may affect you and your family.
Physician Assistant
We utilize a Physician Assistant at the Northside/Alpharetta office to insure seamless and attentive care of our patients. The Physicians Assistant is another valuable resource for you and your family. Physician Assistants are licensed by the State of Georgia to provide health-care services under the supervision of licensed physician.
